Calm Before the Storm

Camp is coming up fast and i'm trying not to get too comfortable at home.  I've been trying to remind myself daily to do something I've never done before to get better.  Coach Martin hit it on the head when he told us to change this football team we have to change everything we do.  We as a team need to stay ready, even though we are on vacation, because this is just the CALM before the STORM.  Camp is coming soon and we have to take off running.

Lessons from the Wolf

When wolves are born the are taught from the beginning how to survive.  Their survival depends on their hunting skills.  If the wolves are great hunters they will survive (or continue to win in life), if not they will perish (or continue to lose in life).  The wolves have a great advantage in that they work as a team and that they are the hunters and not the hunted.  They are raised to be HUNTERS.  Let me use the life of the wolf as a metaphor to the life of a Kent State football player.

What separates the 2010 Kent State football team

Its been about six months since I've been back to California and this hour seems like six more.  As much as I would like it to be, I know this is not a vacation.  The season approaches and I can feel it breathing on my neck.  We don't have any time to spare in preparation.  I've been on the Kent State football team 3, going on 4, years and I can honestly say I've never had a more grueling period of summer workouts.  If we can take that same mentality into camp we can be a force to be reckoned with.  I know that I can't afford throw away 2 months of training for a week and a half of fun.  I'm also confident that my teammates feel the same way.  That is what separates the 2010 Kent State football team from any other.  We are taking control of what we can do to make this team the best it can be.  All of the criticism we face is bringing our teammates closer together.  That being said, this week and a half will be spent making myself a better football player.  I want to bring something to Kent this year that the students, faculty, and the whole town can be proud of.  I want people to be proud to wear a Kent State football shirt.  I know it's not going to be easy.  But it starts a day at a time.

Kent State Football Volunteers for Local Homeless Shelter

Founders or Gennersaret  Bob and Mary Dirgo

This past weekend a group of motivated Kent State football players decided to give back to the community by helping a local homeless shelter move from their original building to a newer facility.  While working, the players learned about how Gennersaret Homeless Shelter provides services to homeless families who are trying to better their living conditions.  Gennersaret was founded in October of 1986.  They are an all volunteer, non profit organization who do not receive any government funding and do not pay their staff.  Their mission is to provide interim housing, food, training, and support services for those families who are earnestly seeking to improve their lives.
